Short Inca Trail To Machu Picchu
Day 1
Day 1: Cusco – KM 104 – Wiñay Wayna – Sun Gate – Aguas Calientes
We will start the days tour with an early pick-up from our hotel in Cusco. Our private transport will take us through the Sacred Valley toward Ollantaytambo. The scenery will include snow-capped peaks, green valleys, and traditional Andean villages. We will board the train toward the starting point of the Short Inca Trail at Kilometer 104 (2,100 meters).
We will begin our hike with a gradual ascent along original Inca stone steps. The route will pass waterfalls, orchids, and vibrant hummingbirds. After a steady climb, we will reach the impressive archaeological site of Chachabamba. Our guide will explain its strategic role as a religious and agricultural center. We will continue toward Wiñay Wayna (2,650 meters), one of the most beautiful ruins on the Inca Trail.
From Wiñay Wayna, we will follow a trail with panoramic views of the Urubamba River. The path will lead us through lush cloud forest before arriving at the Sun Gate (2,720 meters). From here, we will enjoy our first breathtaking view of Machu Picchu. We will then descend toward the citadel for a short visit and continue by bus to Aguas Calientes. In the evening, we will rest at a comfortable hotel and prepare for the next day.
Day 1:
Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco
We will wake up early to enjoy breakfast before taking the first bus to Machu Picchu (2,430 meters ). The morning light will bathe the citadel in golden tones. Our guided tour will explore the most important areas of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will walk through agricultural terraces, temples, plazas, and ceremonial spaces.
We will learn about Inca engineering, astronomy, and daily life within the citadel. Each corner will reveal remarkable stonework and harmonious integration with the surrounding mountains. From the Guardian’s House, we will admire an iconic panoramic view of Machu Picchu. We may also have time to explore optional hikes such as Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, depending on ticket availability.
After the visit, we will descend to Aguas Calientes to enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, we will board the train back to Ollantaytambo and then take our private transport to Cusco. We will arrive in the evening, carrying unforgettable memories of the Short Inca Trail tour
Day 2 :
1. How long is the Short Inca Trail?
The hike is about 10 km on the first day, plus a short walk at Machu Picchu on the second day.

It’s considered moderate. There are some uphill sections, but it’s easier than the 4-day Inca Trail.
